Ellen is a lawyer called to the Ghana Bar and the Bar of England & Wales, since 1993. She is the founder and Managing Partner of Bannerman-Quist Legal Consult & Notary in Accra, Ghana. She worked as a state attorney for 6 years with the International Law Division of the Ministry of Justice in Ghana, where she handled trade agreements, advised the State on its international obligations and participated in international arbitrations & ADR. Ellen subsequently worked in the Legal Services Department of the Volta River Authority for 18 years holding various key positions including Director of Legal Services for 4 years, specialising in energy, construction, commercial and arbitration/ADR.

She is listed as arbitrator with a number of international arbitral institutions including but not limited to the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Database of African International Arbitrators (DAIA), Shanghai Arbitration Centre (SHAC) and Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC). She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators U.K.
